39th Annual National Asparagus Festival
June 7-9 2013
"Age of Asparagus"
During the Festival, please stop at the Hart Library located next to Hart City Hall on State St. and visit the Smithsonian exhibit "The American Worker". Included will be photo's and information on harvesting of asparagus. This exhibit is from the Smithsonian Institute.
SATURDAY, JUNE 1: ASPARAGUS DINNER AND ASPARAGUS QUEEN PAGEANT!
Dinner: 6 p.m., Shelby High School Asparagus Queen Pageant: 7:30 p.m., Shelby Auditorium
Once again the Shelby Chamber of Commerce and Shelby Rotary Club, are planning a tasty all asparagus dinner catered by Morat's of New Era. Dinner is served in an atmosphere of elegance and class. Music, door prizes, and a prize for wearing green. You won't want to miss this! At 7:30 p.m., the Asparagus Queen Pageant will take place in the Shelby Auditorium. Emcee for this year's event is WZZM-TV's Food Editor, Char Morse. Cost is $30 per couple, $15 individual.
FRIDAY, JUNE 7:
10 AM: Arts & Craft Fair, Oceana Co. Courthouse lawn- Downtown Hart
NAF INFORMATION BOOTH: Located at the Arts & Craft Fair, stop by for the latest information, recipes, and souvenirs.
12pm- 7PM: Children and Family Activities in downtown Hart, provided by " Unleashed". Bring your suits for the waterslide
7 PM: ENTERTAINMENT TENT OPENS: Located in the parking lot of HART PIZZA. Music by: SILVERADO.
SATURDAY, JUNE 8:
Annual 5k Spear-It Run at Silver Lake. Registrations begins at 7:30 a.m. Race is at 9:00 a.m. and begins and ends at Dune Town Mall.
9 AM: NAF Information Tent Opens.
9 AM: Arts & Craft Fair Opens.
10 AM: Asparagus Farm Tour: Departs from NAF Information Tent. Enjoy 45-60 minute tour to an asparagus farm in Oceana County. Witness the harvesting, and talk with growers about the asparagus industry. Come Early! This is one of our most popular events!
10 AM - 1 PM: NAF Food Show. Sample a variety of asparagus dishes! Taste for yourself how versatile this yummy veggie is. Knights of Columbus Hall, downtown Hart. Adults $5, children 5-12 $3, under 5 FREE.
12 PM-7 PM: Children's Activities in downtown Hart. Sponsored by Hart Main Street. Be sure to bring your suits for the waterslide
1 PM: Arrival of Antique Cars from "Back to the Bricks" promotional tour. Cars will arrive caravan style from North State Street, and travel to the Hart Historic District. Following the NAF parade, you are invited to view these classic cars at the Historic District, 2 blocks East of the Courthouse.
2PM: Joan Glover NAF Royale Parade in downtown Hart. Rain or Shine!! Bands,floats,queens,dignitaries,antique vehicles for you to enjoy! We welcome back the Scottville Clown Band!
4 PM: Community Pinic,downtown Hart. Sponsored by Shelby Scouts. Enjoy hot dogs, brats, and all the fixin's.
4PM: Entertainment Tent Opens: Located in the parking lot of Hart pizza, downtown Hart. Enjoy the sounds of the Scottville Clown Band.
Music by: The Rocket Fuel haulers, 7 p.m.
SUNDAY, JUNE 9: We invite you to attend the church service of your choice, and visit the many sites that Oceana County has to offer!
7:30 AM - 12 NOON: Fly-In Breakfast, Oceana CO. Airport. Static aircraft displays, asparagus door prizes. "Back to the Bricks" promotional tour will have cars on display. East Baseline Rd. between Shelby and Hart. A truly unique setting for breakfast!
Asparagus Queen 2012: Del Merrill, sponsored by Shelby Floral has been traveling around the state promoting asparagus for nearly a year.
